Summer Update - Mid June 2009

My internship at CESD Talent is going great! My colleagues are all very nice and helpful and I am constantly learning new things. The drive is long, around 55 minutes each way, but most of it is on the Pacific Coast Highway, so the view is not bad at all. Again, I have nothing to complain about and I am extremely blessed with the doors God has opened for me. I have also had the opportunity to spend some great time with friends while living here. Below is a pictures of Alec, Daniel, Shannon, Caroline, Chelsea, Laurence and myself at Omellete Parlor on main street in Santa Monica for Sunday brunch. It was a great place to eat. Taco Tuesday at Duke's has been another good staple, but has kind of fallen apart since many of my friends left after the first session of summer school.
Today, June 13, 2009, I went to a seminar at UCLA titled "Careers in Entertainment: From Assistant/Intern to Producer/Executive" taught by Zig Gauthier, President of Red Varden Studios. It was extremely informative and provided me with many resources. Guest speakers/panelists included a VP of Production at Paramount Pictures, former writer of Law & Order, Chairman/CEO of American Original / former VP of Production at Fox, an agent from William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, the Senior VP of Current Series Programming at ABC, the VP of Diversity at CBS and the Senior VP of Drama Series Development at CBS - all very knowledgeable individuals! I received a comprehensive list of various information and even sample coverage of scripts, which is something that I will hopefully learn to do in school.Above is a cool picture I took while driving on the PCH towards Malibu. "June Gloom" is affecting Southern California - it is when the days are often cloudy, seeing little sunlight. The lows have been in the 50s and highs in the 70s, which is very different from 90s/100s with high humidity that I am used to during Texas summers.

Back to the career discussion: there is so much to do, learn and know in order to make it, it seems. Despite what happens, I am going to trust that God will take me and use me in the way He sees fit regardless of what facet of the entertainment industry I may work in, if I even end up in this industry or what my job title or position may be. My main goal: to be a Christ-like example for others and to impact others through my speech, actions and life in general.
