After tonight, I only have one complete day left in Magnolia, Texas. I began this summer 124 days ago, and it has been over 4 months, which is longer than any school semester I will ever have in college.
In April and May I struggled to find a job and had a small stint as a waiter at a high-end seafood restaurant called Pappadeaux, but soon after I realized that waiting tables was not for me. After Memorial Day, I went down to my grandparents house in Houston and looked for work there. To make a long story short, I had responded via fax to a job ad in the Houston Chronicle for a personal assistant and I survived over 10 weeks at that job. During that time, like I've mentioned before, I lived with the Herring family and had an absolute blast.
It has been over 4 months and in that time I have only seen two of my friends from Pepperdine, Derek and then of course, Caitlin. I have made even more great friends this summer while living down in Houston and have enjoyed the times spent with them and all of my friends and family.
A week from tomorrow I fly out of LAX to London and then take a flight to Geneva. From then until April 10, 2009, I will be living in Lausanne, Switzerland! How ridiculous is that? It will be weird not coming back to see family at Thanksgiving, but I will come to Texas for two and a half weeks during December for Christmas.
In these moments leading up to my departure I have been packing, saying goodbyes and thinking about how many great things I am going to be able to experience. I am extremely blessed to have this opportunity; I cannot say that enough. As far as luggage goes, we are being forced to fit our lives in two suitcases and one backpack and that has been somewhat challenging, but I have b
een very selective and I think I will be able to make it. I am still waiting for some school books I ordered from Amazon to arrive before I finish stuffing my largest suitcase.
It is Tuesday. I leave Thursday. From here I will go to Dallas to meet Derek and leave early Friday morning for our trek out to California. Being in California will be amazing, I am obsessed with that area and it will be great to see all of my friends in Malibu and hang out with them before flying to Europe. Many of my friends will be with me in Lausanne, but some will be in Heidelberg, Florence, London, Shanghai and Buenos Aires as well as Malibu. It will be strange to be apart from everyone for both semesters, but I know we will all come back together in the fall of '09. Hopefully I will be able to make it to the LA staples such as In-n-out, Diddy Reise, Malibu Yo and of course, the beach. I'll keep you guys posted as my journey begins! God bless,
