My first year - part 1

Pepperdine

My first year at Pepperdine is realistically indescribable. Going over 1500 miles away from home without knowing anyone was very scary, but after being there just a few days I realized that I had made the best decision.

Thankfully, before I got to Pepperdine I talked to quite a few of my would-be friends on facebook, kind of weird, yes, but I was glad because there was already some sort of connection between myself and others which was great to have. I had the best roommate possible, Derek and the most amazing suite
mates: Luke, Devin, Rob, Eric, Caleb and Spenser. We called ourselves JPA, which stood for J. Pengilly A-Suite. J. Pengilly was the name of the house we lived in and we lived in the lower suite, suite A. Needless to say we created a name for ourselves and could be identified quite often just by saying, "Yeah, I live in JPA". From dance parties with 40+ people to everyone hanging out or watching Big Brother religiously, we made thousands (and that is not an exaggeration) of memories. That picture is of all of us right outside JPA on the very last day we were all there, April 24, 2008.

Living in Malibu, California, is everything that you think it would be. I had an ocean view from my bed and the beach was only 5 minutes away. Situated on the side of a mountain, Pepperdine is one of the most beautiful universities in the world. Going to a club in Hollywood, roaming around Westwood and Beverly Hills and UCLA, hanging out at 3rd steet or the Santa Monica pier, sunset chasing, random trips to Indian casinos, driving 2.5 hours to ski for the weekend and seeing the ocean every time you walk out your door are things that are not possible for a lot of college kids, but for us it was normal.

I loved my first year at Pepperdine and I am so blessed to have all of the amazing friends I have made by going there. I'm new to this blogspot thing, but I will write more later and hopefully add some pictures. Thanks for reading,

Wade

P.S. My hopes for this blog are to chronicle my travels in Europe as I go live in Lausanne, Switzerland this coming school year and study abroad. I will share what it is like living/traveling there and I will definitely try to post many pictures.
