Goodbye California... for a moment

Where did summer go?!

This past week has been great. The TV Academy Intern Networking event went very well - it was nice to visit with fellow interns as well as industry professionals. (Below: Adrienne Berg, Carol Lynn Sher, agents from CESD, and I at the event. With Fellow interns at the Emmy Statue outside of the Academy theater.)The evening consisted of dinner/mingling with Panera Bread, Nina Tassler (President of CBS Entertainment) and a panel with Laura Saltman (Correspondent, AccessHollywood.com), James Duff (Creator & Executive Producer "The Closer) and Joe Pokaski (Supervising Producer/Writer "Heroes"). It is so hard for me to believe that my time as an Academy Intern is over. It seems like I received the good news just yesterday, but in reality it was back in mid-May.

Friday I enjoyed being an extra/background actor on the new TV show, Three Rivers, which I read the pilot script for while at CESD. I was hired with my car and drove on the NY set at the historic Paramount lot, was a college student and a "fellow" in a hospital - except I didn't end up working on the last scene. This past Monday I worked on another show, United States of Tara, as a high school student. I was at Three Rivers for 12.5 hours, which will be a nice payday and UST for only 5.5, but I will still get paid for 8 hours. Being an extra is easy, entertaining and delicious because there is often a plethora of food aka "crafting" in the entertainment industry. As a college student with a busy schedule, there aren't many other part-time jobs that can compare! (Below: Zuma Beach, Malibu.)
Sunday I enjoyed showing fellow interns Greg (Unscripted TV - Fox Reality) and Joanna (Entertainment News - E! News) around Malibu. We did a quick loop around Pepperdine's campus, relaxed at Zuma and ate some great food at Dukes. Monday I was surprised to learn that my good friend Andrew Hagen was in town with his friend Bobby as they are on their way to Canada and then will be coming back down to Malibu. Tuesday I was able to hang out with them as well as Chelsea (who came up from OC), Sam and Catherine - we went to La Salsa and Malibu Yo, but not before taking the Five Love Languages for Singles quiz. I had a three way tie with: Words of Affirmation, Quality Time and Gifts. Acts of Service and Touch were tied for second place. (Below: Catherine, Bobby, Chelsea, Sam, Andrew and myself.)Just the other night I was laying on my bed in La Croisée gazing at the lights glowing along Lake Geneva while the moon illuminated the alps and discussed with Rob how many "extra" jobs I would have to get per month in order to afford rent and survive a summer in California. I was determined to live here. Thankfully God intervened and blessed me with incredible opportunities at the exact right time and the rest is now history. What seemed like such a daunting and unknown future is now behind me. Tomorrow I fly to Texas to spend time with family and friends before driving back with Caroline, being an orientation leader and beginning my junior year on the 31st. Sometimes it can be so difficult to fully grasp how wonderful our past moments have been, and that is where I am. Looking at pictures of my friends and I traveling Europe or the sunsets over Pepperdine and Malibu, it is hard to believe that such great things occurred. I know I shouldn't constantly dwell on the past, but I do think it is important to be thankful for it, and I am. I am thankful for such blessings and go forward living in every moment as my friend Anna recently reminded me to do...

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. ~ Matthew 6:34

Be Blessed,
