HEIDELBERG, Germany

Reunion with friends in Heidelberg

The weekend of February 6-8, 2009 some of my friends from here in Lau
sanne, Andrew Hagen, Ashley Goldman, Kelsey Hall, Shannon Kirkpatrick and Hayley Johnson and I went to Heidelberg to see the city, the Pepperdine campus there and our friends studying there. Heidelberg is a beautiful city and it was really interesting to experience life as they live it there.
Friday we got there a little later than we thought, but still just after noon. Friday was a lazy day after walking up to Moore Haus, Caleb and I just took a nap and hung out with Laura and others while our friends went on the Philosophers walk. Friday night we all went out to Schnitzel Haus, which was simply incredible. At Schnitzel Haus they have over 100 types of Schnitzel and I got the Kopenhagen which had sour cream, mushrooms, bacon and sausage on the schniztel. They also give sauerkraut and french fries with them as well. It was so filling and nice to have a good meal. That night we went up to the Castle and looked out over the city, even though it was extremely foggy. (Below: Myself, Laura and Caleb) Saturday was somewhat of a lazy day, too, but it is always nice to have relaxing weekends. We did not actually leave the house until around 1pm, and then we went and walked around the castle during the day time, walked along the Haupstrasse, which is the main street and I got some souvenirs. Before heading up to the house Laura, Caleb and I walked over to the Old Bridge and took some pictures because there is a really good view of the castle and of the town from there. That afternoon we watched Napoleon Dynamite and just hung out around Moore Haus (the name of the mansion that Pepperdine has owned there since 1963 or so). When it was a mansion it was used to hide Jews and later for Nazi interrogations. There is also an old Nazi bunker on the property, which is both eery and interesting. After just hanging out we all went as a large group to Kurlturbrau, with reservations for 25 and I had a wonderful plate of Bratwurst, sauerkraut and potatoes. It was yet another epic German meal. That night we returned to the house and then went out to go to Karaoke, which was somewhat of a failure because the place had a huge line in order to sing, so we ended up going back to Moore Haus, but not before watching Caleb and Phoenix sing "I'm Too Sexy" for the entire place, which was hilarious. We did our own karaoke on the walk back. (Below: Laura and I in front of Moore Haus)The next morning after eating breakfast and saying goodbyes, Shannon, Hayley and I headed back to Lausanne around 2:15. My other friends left a little earlier in order to have more time in Lausanne before leaving for our field trip to Greece, but we were fine with getting back later. We were suppose to be back in Lausanne at 7:15, but because of train trouble near Fribourg we did not arrive until 9:15. The next morning we left for Greece, which I still need to blog about.

I just finished two midterms this week and I am busy doing other things in preparation for this coming summer and school year, but I will try to blog about our AMAZING Educational Field Trip in Greece before too long. A lot of people in our house are sick, so if you would, please keep them in your prayers and me in your prayers also as I look towards the future, all while living and embracing every moment I have been blessed with.

I thank God that he has blessed us all so richly! Take care!
